About

Takedowns, done carefully, paid for when they work.

Copy Removal files copyright takedown notices for people whose website text or photos turn up on someone else's site. Most of the people who come to us have already found the copy. What they do not have is the time to work out who hosts it, what a notice must contain, and what to do when nobody answers.

How we work

Every request is read by a person. We look at your page and theirs, check which came first using public archive captures and your own records, and look for the things that would make a notice wrong: a licence, a quote for review, a supplier description handed to every reseller. If we would not file, we tell you, and that costs nothing.

When we do file, it is with the host's designated agent, as your authorised agent, after you have read and approved the notice. We follow it up, check the page ourselves, and only then send an invoice.

Why we are strict

A takedown notice is made under penalty of perjury, and the law lets the other side recover costs from anyone who knowingly misrepresents a copy (17 U.S.C. § 512(f)). We sign as your agent, so a careless notice is a risk to both of us. Turning down a doubtful page is part of the service.

What we are not

We are not a law firm, and we do not give legal advice. If the other side sends a counter-notice and you want to take it further, we will tell you that it is time to speak to a lawyer.
